Warning: This post may contain spoiler…or may not…I’m not sure… I read “Kiss Me In New York” last Christmas and ever since, I just found out that two people stuck in the airport because of winter storm near the holiday is my favorite background for a fiction books. I love planes, I love winter, perfect match. But just like “Kiss Me In New York”, the story turned out to be just meeeeehhdicore for me. Maybe it’s a good book for anyone else, maybe it’s just me, don’t get me wrong. Maybe because the background situation is my favorite so that I have a huge expectation for the story and it let me down. I don’t know, maybe. They both are blue colored on the cover, so, yah, I also hope that the book would be 4 out of 5, not just 3. The Chaos of Standing Still is 3 out of 5 for me. Dang, it got 3 just because the background story, the new year’s eve theme, the blizzard, the on the plane and airport situation, contain psychiatry content, and the book cover design, the actual love story between Ryn and Xander is just B for me. The cover is terrific! Just like other winter stories that I really love, it’s tempting, made me want to buy it and read it as soon as possible. I’m a huge fan of the cover, the blue color, the watercolor snowflakes, pretty, just pretty. It have a bold sense of personality and I like it too. I like it so much so I downloaded the cover image and set it as my tablet’s lock screen background, hehe. I had no idea that they gave bonus prizes for the pre-order, I’m too late and just found out about it when the book is already released. I want those merchandises so bad, they are perfectly designed and beautifully crafted :") But this, is the part where I began to lose my interest to winter fictions. So far I enjoyed Dash and Lily’s Book of Dares, it had many surprises part and I kinda like it, but don’t know why I’m more comfortable with What Light, I just like the vibe. I began with the stuffs I liked from The Chaos of Standing Still, and here’s the I’m-so-that-into stuffs:
But I like the idea of the chaos of standing still theory, that’s one of unique idea and deserve appreciation. The author can explain precisely the actual situation of stuck in an airport for more than a day. Any system, if left unattended or isolated, will eventually result in entropy, or chaos. That is certainly out of the box and brilliant. Ryn’s mental illness because her trauma also out of the box, I never heard some things like that so it’s also brilliant. But it make sense to me considered what Ryn have been through, she became like that. Again, out of the box and brilliant. I don’t want to spoil the description because in my opinion that is the part that makes reading this book until the end is worth it. I hope there are no people out there that think Ryn is over reacting or just making things up :( that is what person with mental illness have to deal with, people, it’s a real thing. I have to spread stigma fighting again here, hehe. I’m not a fan of Ryn and Lottie’s friendship, but the author can draw a clear picture about Lottie’s character and readers can familiar with that, with their line, with Lottie’s dream, etc. So if there’s a fact that mentioned in the beginning part of the book and something happened at the last part of the book, we'll immediately know that it’s connected and gonna be like “OOOOWH.”. Again, I’m not a fan of their friendship, but the author, Jessica Brody, can make the readers feel like they lost Lottie too and we knew everything about them. If the “Wanna hear something crazy?” line came up, in my mind I would automatically answer: “Always.” And speaking of which, I want to spoil something, that didn’t feels like spoiler, but it is, well, technically. Until the end of the book, we never know what is Lottie’s last one unread message, no not because Xander accidentally deleted it, but because Jessica Brody never mention it on the book until the end!! Feels like a useless road trip and I’m kinda pissed off so that’s why I give this spoiler, haha. I already imagined what the messages would like, I have several drafts in my mind, but the mystery will remain unsolved until the end of the time, ugh. So, that’s my opinion about The Chaos of Standing Still, guys. While I’m writing this I feel like I should appreciate the mental health awareness from this book so I want to give 4 but I remember again about how boring the middle parts of the book so yeah maybe 3.5 out of 5. Hehe. I hope there’s no hurt feeling and I’m sorry if my opinion is different with other people. I know how it must be hard to write a book and it should be very much appreciated, criticized is a piece of cake but we will never be able to create something as awesome as she made. I totally respect the author and her idea of the chaos of standing still :) Hey guys, it's me, again, huh
I know I've been gone for a moment, just like the book title, my life was basically standing in chaotic situation for a long time, but now I'm on progress to recover. Lot of things been going on. But...Last Friday I just finished that whole book in just one day, and so sorry for the low quality image, bad lighting :( and I'm just too excited to hop into this website again so I cannot wait for a better light. Hopefully I can keep in touch to you later. See ya soon!
